My wife does this to me sometimes for absolutely no reason whatsoever. I'll be talking to her and she'll stop listening and do something like this or I might be cooking, reading, etc. and I'll look over and she'll be doing this. I assume it's just an upwelling of love that hits you all at once, you know like when you see her sleeping and feel a need to protect her even though she's perfectly fine.
