>Why are the people who listen to the worst coreshit and stoner doom (aka onions) obsessed with talking about what is “heavy”?
Ignorance. They're often newer to or more casual with metal/hardcore/etc., so they're easily impressed by guitar tones, production, and big dumb chugs. The more in your face, percussive, and distorted a breakdown or riff is, the moar heavierer it is. I think that's why stuff like Lorna Shore is popular in pseudo-normieville, it jingles all the "heavy" keys as hard possible.
>Is really this how most “metal” listeners are and we are in a chud bubble?
Possibly. Maybe the "heavy music" coreshitters are in the bubble, arguably we're both in bubbles with how subcultures and now recommendation algorithms work.
A lot of people seek what they're already familiar with, especially as they get older. We should be thankful that the things unfamiliar and good like metal fell into our laps when we were still young and curious enough to accept them.
