peasant societies aren't the worst thing in the world, in my opinion
they have strengths in the form of simplicity, clear hierarchy and robustness; they can last for centuries and have easily outlasted virtually every liberal democracy, a system which is supposedly "better", judging by the way things are going
with that being said, peasant societies are at this point an outdated mode of organising society and it really only exists to serve as a "starting point" for a society now so clearly it's not a good system to strive towards
russia is in a bad spot socially because of their geographic location; they're surrounded on all sides by enemies without much natural physical barriers so there's this natural tendency for societies like that to gravitate towards more strongmen-type leaders as they (attempt to) offer the people more security and a safer life from foreign invaders
