I always found the sewers somewhat calming on new playthroughs. It's a stat and/or level check: it's about what you brought in the sewers. The sewers are retarded, sure but if you prepare for them, somewhat buff your character somewhat decently, if you get a ton of a blood bags, then it's all about taking 1 hour of your time slowly slogging inside the sewers to get to the bottom, and being happy your character is just steamrolling all the enemies.
It's like clearing a dungeon in Diablo II without difficulty, or I guess. Just the sense of accomplishment.
What VTMB failed in is in conveying you HOW the sewers would be a bloodbath in first playthrough. You should need to have at least two (2) characters telling you in clear terms that the sewers are a death level, so you can prepare. It should be made clear you need to get blood bags and ammo. Instead you've got Isaac saying "just go into the sewers lmao".
