It's meh. It's a clan that wants you to build entirely for Brawl but its skills, while on paper good, don't do the job very well in the mid to late game. Protean's Warform forces you to do a 2 hit combo because the animation of the 3rd hit fucks you,Fortitude loses a ton of its value later in the game when certain bosses, start whipping out tons of Aggravated Damage and it becomes much better to avoid attacks entirely then try to tank them. Animalism is a bunch of serviceable projectile attacks but they're all kind of samey and underwhelming.

While I like them thematically the game doesn't provide them the means to excel in their niche. Ventrue and Malkavians have the best dialogue powers, Celerity Clans are by far the strongest in combat, because the discipline is broken, Tremere have more diverse options with Blood Magic

Over the pandemic, I was replaying the game after a long time, and kept crashing during the boss fight against the shotgun Sabbat guy.
I realised that the game would crash whenever my ammo count reached zero so I had to activate the god mode in the console and use melee instead.

IMHO the clans that are worth playing are >Ventrue: Fortitude + Dominate + Presence, it allows a versatile playstlye that can do both brute force and apply a more subtle approach. THE best clan, probably.

Most people focus on the dialogue but having Dementation which can be used in both combat and dialogue along with Obfuscate to easily sneak past a lot of things makes them fun just from a mechanical perspective. I always found the sewers somewhat calming on new playthroughs. It's a stat and/or level check: it's about what you brought in the sewers. The sewers are retarded, sure but if you prepare for them, somewhat buff your character somewhat decently, if you get a ton of a blood bags, then it's all about taking 1 hour of your time slowly slogging inside the sewers to get to the bottom, and being happy your character is just steamrolling all the enemies.

It's like clearing a dungeon in Diablo II without difficulty, or I guess. Just the sense of accomplishment.

I've done three runs with the patch on the Steam version and the only time I've actually had to restart the game was in the werewolf area. The fucking dog got stuck in his running animation and wouldn't get crushed by the observatory doors. It happened one time and I fixed it by walking outside, looking at him, turning around so he wasn't on camera anymore, and then going back inside where he teleported into the right spot.

Yeah I was really disappointed you only got to play as a Hunter for three missions. I knew it was going to be fanfic stuff by a weird german, but just the novelty of playing as a Hunter in VTMB was really fun and honestly I thought the oil rig section was very well done. Each section gives you a path back to Hollywood so you can restock and do whatever. Though they're easy to miss.

I don't think the game had too many inherent design flaws but it was poorly communicated at times too. Like how really important parts of the melee system are kind of glossed over in text during the tutorial instead of actually making you do it so it ensures you know how it works.

1. Get the game off GOG. It has the Unofficial Patch preinstalled. This is literally REQUIRED to play the game. IF YOU PREFER STEAM then go right ahead and get it from there, but install version 9.9 of the Unofficial Patch. Later versions are less ideal.

2. PICK WHICHEVER VAMPIRE CLAN YOU WANT. IGNORE ANYONE WHO SAYS OTHERWISE.

3. This is not essential, but I would recommend only building one combat type (Unarmed, Melee, or Ranged). You don't get many experience points in this game and spreading them across multiple combat types will mean less points left over to spend on non-combat skills. Of course if you want to do a purely combat focused build then go right ahead and dump all your points into multiple combat types. Whatever sounds funnest to you.

4. Inspection is LITERALLY useless. As in "it does NOTHING" (other than add a highlight icon to items on the ground). This does NOT help you in ANY way. Don't waste your experience points on it.

5. I would recommend doing the tutorial (when the guy at the beginning asks if you want him to show you the ropes say yes). Not only do you get a lockpick (massively useful item) out of this, you also get to learn some cool lore (which I'd argue is more important).

6. DO NOT LOOK UP SPOILERS. However, when you get to the sewer level (the LONG linear one, not just the regular sewers) don't hesitate to look up a guide. This is the ONLY place in the entire game that I'd suggest doing this though. The rest you should be able to figure out on your own no problem.
