We haven't seen the full extent of how bad things can get, but Bane (who is a 20 foot mountain of muscle in this universe) literally punched Bruce's friends into the shape of his classic villains. No, that doesn't make sense. But it's what happened. Bane also cut off Bruce's arms and legs and smashed his skull with the bat symbol, but that was more like a dream sequence.
