Surge is a character that appeals directly to Y2K era Sonic fans from her design, to her personality to her backstory to her abilities. She feels like a character 2000's era Sonic Team and 2000's Sonic fans on Team Artail would come up with and thats a good thing.
It stands to reason that a lot of Surge fans are oldfags who love all parts of the franchise and play the games at least before the meta era.
