I think you're misunderstanding this. Read the thread in my first post. The DS Phat is closer to the AGS 001, while the DS Lite is closer to the AGS 101.
Both the AGS 101 and DS Lite have a color gamut closer to SRGB, hence why they look oversaturated on some of the earlier games.
The AGS 001 and DS Phat have a much smaller color gamut compared to the former and are front lit.
The third in pic is DS Phat and the fourth one is the DS Lite.
Besides, the original game came out years before the AGS 101 model released.

As for the boxart, and I could be wrong here, but those screenshots could be from in-house emulators or direct captures where color correction would probably take more effort for simple boxart.
