The blunt fact is that for all the people doing their own indy projects and everyone clamoring to get in on the indy animation train right now, they would ALL rather be doing mainstream stuff for a major studio and getting paid decent money for it. Almost none of these people want to be doing indy stuff, they just have to since there is barely any legit big studio work to be had. Lots of people have given up any hope of making it in a major studio, they are not going to live their dream of working on a Disney feature or a Nicktoon, they are never going to pitch their own pilot to Cartoon Network. Those days are gone, most of those places stopped hiring anyone years ago. And they are way WAAAAY down the line behind guys with huge and impressive resumes and lots of major award winning things they have worked on in the past. There is no hope for an up and comer or recent grad to get anywhere. Not when past showrunners of successful series have also been out of work and are begging for any scraps.
People are going indy because if they want to do anything animation they have to. There is no other choice. But, if there was a choice they would not be peddling their work on YouTube.
