LA's is available in gallon bottles at Home Depot. NTA, but I immensely prefer it. Starts lifting quickly and even bores through varnish. You need to wear gloves and use a soft brush to scrub the models a couple times, but it'll PLOW the paint off of them. Last week I got some crusty-ass eBay Goblintown gobbos stripped of four layers of spray paint from an obvious and failed attempt at a zenithal. Took three sessions of a couple minutes scrubbing per mini in-between 2-hour soaks to get 99% of the paint off. Just dip the brush in the soap, straight, and scrub the mini with it. Don't let water touch the model until you're done scrubbing, it can cause some paints to react and gum up, and don't dilute the cleaner.
It's a mild potassium hydroxide solution with a booster of extremely vigorous detergent. Hazards are basically "don't drink it, don't eat it, wear gloves and wash your fucking hands'. You can use vinegar to neutralize it if you have a glove rupture or a spill, but keep vinegar WELL the fuck away from pewter. It starts lead rot if there's any in the mini and gets you a nice solution of (bioavailable) lead acetates. Which is extremely bad.
