Though I recently reread RS/E/ORAS specifically since I wanted to look at Sapphires, and a lot of my general opinions on RS ended up changing. I think most readers can tell the main duo are more complex than they seem but to me they just keep getting deeper. Sapphire's actually quite smart in her own way (emphasis on "in her own way" kek), modern society just isn't conditioned to value the same things she does. Meanwhile Ruby's mental illness was worse than I remembered if you interpret his crashouts as suicide attempts, or how much he relies on Sapphire for purpose and structure he can't find himself. His mental decline in volume 18 is quite obvious too, it's not just some fan headcanon that something's wrong with him.
Then realizing the Epic of Gilgamesh parallel took me out completely, I went from thinking Ruby and Sapphire might be better off apart to believing their marriage/procreation/retirement at My Pyre is pivotal for their universe, which meant they have to suck it up and work things out. My views on Norman and Courtney also did a total 180. The Wallace/Winona and Ruby/Sapphire parallel also answers why Sapphire never challenges the League.

What the fuck lmao. But it would be both interesting and relevant to the story to learn about Norman's relationship to his own dad I guess.
