I think it's actually the opposite. Conservatives are more instinctively grounded in the laws of nature and are not as blinded by ideological rationalizations. They intuitively feel and conserve the inherited form, the seasonal rhythms and true justice of natural life (both just and cruel), while anti-natural ideological memes are symptoms of late, abstracted, corrupted and desacralized civilization. I've come to understand that this fidelity is not nostalgia or just being reactionary, but natural orientation to the vertical axis towards the divine: rites, symbols, and hierarchies as conduits of transcendence of the universe. So by guarding those mediations the conservative remains nearer to the spiritual than the modern progressive liberal who levels the sacred into mere politics and materialism. There I find a disciplined affirmation of life and its divinity that beautifully resists the anesthetic of egalitarian materialism, of man-made lies and abstractions, and keeps faith with what is through its naturally-emerging mythological symbology, rather than with what is wished. I was a progressive liberal in my youth too, so I understand. However, I've also come to understand that every spiritually mature soul eventually becomes a traditionalist, and for a good reason.
