It has absolutely nothing to do with eye catching or what fits best in the expansion, I genuinely believe it's just ego. dracthyr and haranir is their own donut steel OCs and the earthen we got is barely like the ones we met before. They add what the devs want and the players just have to put up with it, WoW has become their fruity art project and we only exist to keep it afloat. We're going to keep getting more brand new unappealing garbage races, more stories that either retcon old lore or base itself on completely new made up stuff, and call backs to their own stuff.
I believe that the new devs want to completely demolish the first ten years of WoW to make it feel like it's their own thing. We're not getting amani, or high elves, or ogres, or naga, or anything of that sort. All we're getting races ripping off things from young adult novels and children's shows the devs consume.
