I know one thing: before the era of high-speed internet flat rates (for me, that started around 2004), life was much more boring. You oooften just didn’t know what to do. Then later smartphones came along and pretty much eliminated boredom outside the house, too. And that really makes an incredible difference in quality of life - enough to more than make up for anything that might have been better back then.
