I ponder about this sort of thing often. My schizo guess? /ak/ zako ryona fetishist in the director's chair. The /ak/ aesthetic seems to attract a lot of people who love seeing cute anime girls getting warcrime'd, so maybe since he already tasted the usual "sexy woman getting killed off like nothing" crap and wanted to go for something more extreme with the Nytos.

I don't mind some dark moments here and there but there's a point in which this sort of shit goes from "sad war tragedy" to "I wanna punch the writer in the face". Just throwing a few bones to the people who feel bad about the Nyto or SF grunts would be massive but nope, gotta go all in with them getting massacred like nothing.
