80s and early 90s anime series used to last a ridiculous amount of episodes since back then they made back their money from TV reruns instead of streaming/BD and you needed at least 52 episodes to sell them on weekday's syndication
so they would sell each 52 or so episodes as season packages to TV channels Worldwide
