Ark Nova is a 9/10 but there are some massive caveats.
>Teaching games are 4 hr sessions. Once you know the game you'll avoid newbies like the plague
>It doesn't really open up strategy-wise until you have multiple plays
>It can be very easy to miss passive effects from your tableau unless you know the card effects really well
>Some of the asynchronous maps are very unbalanced, Silver Lake and Ice Cream Parlors mog most of the other maps
The new edition having 4x copies of all the maps is a game changer though. The game really shines balance-wise when all players are using the same map. Unlike Terraforming Mars, a vast majority of the cards are playable in every game. I can really only think of 2-3 cards that are outright bad, and even they can have some niche scenarios where you can extract value from them.
