The vast intellectual and cultural prowess of North Africa, Egypt, and Levant was completely drowned out by barbarity, the incoming cult and subsequent generations of inbreeding. It's truly hard to gauge just how bad the fall was.

Christendom eventually recovered and had new centers of cultural and intellectual development, but history would've taken a very different turn otherwise.
