The russians have been so completely mindbroken by centuries of dictatorial rule and serfdom that they genuinely only understand master-slave dynamics, actual democracy is beyond them.
In their minds there are always master and slaves, friendship and mutually beneficial relationships don't exist to them, it's nothing but abuse and exploitation.
