I don't do this because of the horror stories my dad told me about where he used to work as a teen. The "crab auschwitz" machine (he called it this lol) he would operate would steam dozens of crabs at once and they would scatter and suffer in them. He taught me the more humane way is that you put them in a cold pot then slowly bring up the water to steaming and they "enjoy" it like a sauna until they basically pass out from the heat. I think this works cause I never see them trying to escape the pot or spaz out from the sudden increase in temp, they just sit in the colander and let it happen.
