I did work in robotics and have worked on multiple robots.
But no humanoïd ones because it was a pain until very recently.
I have a handful of friends that worked at Aldebaran, and, yeah, there is a reason Pepper have a rolling base and not legs.
Today tho? Eyup, it can be done (like since 3 years ish at a usable performances and price)

Yes it's hard. You are a retard if you think it's not. Having a robot walk in straight line in a flat, obstacle free warehouse is piss easy. You don't even need electronics for that.
But being able to walk and adapt to the environment fast enough not to fall is very hard.
Second, the tech wasn't here for 50 years. All the sensors to scan the surroundings weren't there in 1975, let alone the processing power to use them.
Third, a bipedal robot, by definition, spend most of it's time on two legs. Else it's not bipedal...
