It’s called a “failure of consideration” when something you purchase which you and any reasonable person believed to be an investment actually turns out to be an expense you’re required to pay back.
This is why lemon laws exist for cars, it’s the same with student loans.
Imagine if you could instead take out a massive student loan but you were required to invest it in stocks and bonds, and repayment was capital gains based based (1% payback for every 5% net profit) there would be very few poor americans.
sure stocks would soar but it would mean American’s had the lion’s share of ownership of the companies in their own country.
