DND lore is the way it is because of WOTC being profit seeking, pinkerton sending retards. Larian wants to distance themselves from WOTC. Dragonlance authors want to distance themselves from WOTC. The movie people (Honour Amongst Thieves) disappears into the aether.

The pattern here is that WOTC have zero soul, spend all their time mismanaging the brand and keep chasing talented people who produce good quality writing away on purpose. And all the characters are stuck in stasis because of this.
