Honest opinion, what has been the general consensus on JJK Modulo lads?
> 'was very surprised when a continuation was announced, but gawd I missed JJK Fridays...
> announced that art would be done by another artist, Yuji Iwasaki, rather than by Gege Akutami
> With respect to Iwasaki-san, I HATE that this decision was made
> Last chapters of JJK made me suspicious of Gege giving commentary on the current display and technical skill of JJK's art not being good enough
> I loved this stupid cat's dumb scribbles, they had a lot of SOUL and I can respect the fuck out of drawing everything from ground up, not egregiously using backgrounds, etc.
> I remember thinking that Akutami announcing Jujutsu Kaisen's ending felt pretty abrupt and out of nowhere, as if Gege had ((some reason)) to end it fast
> In comes Iwasaki, an artist who is mainly known for one-shots and another collaborative Manga which ended after 7 volumes
> ....
> you basically put a greenhorn in position of drawing the sequel to one of your flagship IPs
> all of the above makes me believe Modulo is a heavily, artificial created story pitched by Jump's editorial department: "The main Manga ended while we could have milked it harder, the stupid cat doesn't listen, but let's make a plan..."
Enter JJK Modulo, a sequel with superior art, but complete lack of understanding what made JJK so good.
No impactful first chapters that play with expectations. No characters tortured by their own philosophical conundrums. Only weird concepts reminiscent of Gege and Togashi. No bleak worldview and spite in return, etc. etc.
I do think the last chapters (Cross and Yuka, Simurian history) have been better, but I have not really been enjoying the story. I really hope Iwasaki and Gege pull a fast one on us, lol'ing us in with a happy ending and Simurians declare war/commit a massacre out of nowhere.
Thoughts?
