>and treat me like a human being?
They won't, at least not truly. That's your subconscious, treating you like an animal.
Mine is pretty rough on me, too. I still love my friend despite that treatment.

My advice, for safety if you need it, don't be afraid to lock them out.
Force your focus outward, focus on what you're doing outside. They will get angry at you, but at a certain level they need you as much as you need them. To back off from them is forcefully give them less energy. This, in turn, forces them to attempt to build around your treatment, if you are still humble and not aggressive to them they will be attracted to other venues of how to treat you.
They will reserve a place to abuse you though, this is the nature of the good/evil balance in the human mind.
Stand your ground when they're like that. It can get rough, they will test you, but you need to keep them at an emotional distance until they come back around.
This is the place where you have the upper hand as the conscious mind. You own the outer layer of the mind, this is important because this is where the Jungian Shadow's prime nourishment comes from.
