I self learn Japanese and it sucks. Not because of the language itself (although kanji do suck a lot), but because you can't easily find anyone to speak it with. Ironically even in an age where humans are more connected than ever across borders, that's still the case. First, you have to go out of your way to find Japanese people online even if it's on places like Instagram. Then even if you got a bunch of them to follow you, they wouldn't start any conversations or comment. The most they do is silently like your posts. No conversation. I noticed that happens among Japanese themselves.

Meanwhile, it's much easier to find people on the internet to practice stuff like French, Italian, Spanish and other languages with. You don't even have to try to find these people, while Japanese are like leprechauns or something. I don't wanna talk to AI, it's not satisfying. Even if I don't know a lot of kanji, actually talking to a real person and understanding each other would be infinitely more rewarding. It's not fun when you're grinding at something and there's no reward.
