As a fan of Final Fantasy since I was maybe 6 or 7, I've always wanted to see a system like FFVIIR. Final Fantasy that's a fighting game. Something that combines the cinematic summon animations and fantastical nature of FF turn based combat with a living breathing gameplay system that you will control in real time. It's the game that I dreamed of playing as a 13 year old when I was renting hack and slash games from the video store. I'm so glad the world has VIIR as the potential base for new major Final Fantasy games, and that the kids today are enjoying these new FF games that have such a great fucking combat system. Elite combat system.

It's not perfect though. There's bloat and on rails game design sludge all over the place before you get to the good combat instead of just giving you the good combat all the time inbetween story. I'd still personally prefer to see something closer to the concept of Versus XIII and FFXV. Huge open fields with a minimalist design, classic monsters, lots of systemic interactions like day/night, weather, realistic physics, cooking and camping, cinematic setpieces in the city areas and various story dungeons. Dark and romantic, sci fi and fantasy. Weighty and bloody, platforming action. Kingdom Hearts 2 but with a full Commands menu, complete with character switching, Jobs/weapons and all of your typical FF RPG elements.

I dream for what FFXV could and should have been. With the original concepts intact, proper controls and inputs, full itemization, full enemy mechanics, etc, and a map that actually felt chaotic and apocalyptic as well as retro Americana, like Fallout.
