so, im an oldfag that has been out of the loop from PC components for the last decade, i was using an intel i5 3400, 16GB DDR3, SSD for the last 9 years until my motherboard shat the bed, there was no point in getting a used motherboard to replace the damaged one since i could get a more recent branded PC for dirt cheap.
So last week i got a used Optiplex 5050 with a Core i5 7600 , chose this machine because i could still use the same DDR3 sticks i had, put the same SSD and system booted right on, NO dedicated GPU, no need to reinstall Windows, uninstalled previous motherboard drivers, installed the new motherboard drivers and HOLY shit the jump in performance was something i didnt expect to notice this much.
I had the idea that performance was somewhat stalled in the last decade in regards to CPU computing speed and the only noticeable jump in performance will be using an SSD, now i notice the smoothness when watching Youtube, how responsive the system feels, i just ordered an m.2 nvme drive to replace my old samsung sata SSD and im curious if i will also notice a huge jump in performance and speed doing my daily tasks.
I know the jump from Intel 3rd gen to 7th gen should be something that will be perceived, i just didnt think it would be this much, i stoped updating my system because the jump in performance was so miniscle, almost unperceivable unless you went the austistic route running benchmarks, but not something i would notice on daily use so i stopped, the last GPU ive ever had in my old system was a Radeon 7790 3gb.
Anyways, im just wondering if i would notice the same jump in performance if i make the jump from a 7th gen Intel to a 10th gen, does anyone here still does yearly upgrades to your systems?
