That's a dumb autistic complaint. Its simply invalid and reductive.
Yes, FTL is the baseline tech for a sci-fi space IP.
Vehicles with an engine propulsion such as internal combustion or electricity are the baseline tech for a racing game.
Swords, Axes and spears are the baseline tech for a western medieval game.
Literally what is the problem here? What the fuck do you expect, a game where we both have interstellar travel but also... don't have the tech for it? You dumb fuck. There's already game with near-future tech where we are in our solar system or we are stuck on a ship, Dead space and Cyberpunk both have this tech.
A far bigger issue with space sci fi is the alien races. It's almost always, ALWAYS such a lazy, narcissistic human-centric presentation of what life could be.
It shows how humans are so dumb and creatively limited in their perception when everyone out there in the vast reaches of completely biologically evolutionarily distinct is just... recolored humans with an antenna, bugface or some shit. It's so fucking lazy.
Alien and that one Jelly like race from Mass Effect were the only interesting depictions of aliens i've seen because they seem like plausible evolutionary paths.
Like If I had to really think about it, we as humans would never come up with something like a Rhino or an Elephant unless we saw them and knew they existed. We would not be able to come up with it because almost all the alien designs out there look like variations of.. Us. It's so dumb and immersion breaking.
