My last name is a Germanic French one. Most people outside of Eastern France have no idea how to pronounce it and I've met people from South-West Germany who told me that my name must be English or Scandi or something. But no, it's 100% French and a 100% Germanic. Funnily enough, it's not even rare in its region of origin.
