I wouldn't say that. Most of the men that have gone to war did so for glory. Very few were nuanced in this take. I agree with your point that one of Gundam's key themes is "war is inevitable," but I also think a consistent theme is, as is true for any given male fantasy, amazement for courage and bravado, albeit framed from the perspective of being empowered by a technological juggernaut. At the end of the day, most of us became entranced by Gundam at the thought of being a mere man elevated to power beyond belief by means of piloting a weapon of destruction.
At his core, every man knows that war is bad, but desires it anyway. On his terms, at least.
