"There have never been such relations between the echelons. There has never been such an irresponsible political echelon. There has never been a prime minister who has the highest interest, the endless continuation of the war, is fundamentally opened to the interest of the country he heads. There has never been such a backlog of ministers who combine basic ignorance with empty rhetorical and, for some, a messianic worldview. Zamir, who seems to have taken office with a suspended disability that this is the case, seems to have accepted it.
.....
The room Zamir will enter is completely different. It will be nothing more than a low-level political gathering, attended by people who are completely ignorant, who do not even pretend that they came to hear arguments and discuss them seriously. The prime minister openly disdains their knowledge and level, while unprecidedly submitting to their political threat to end his days in office. The defense minister exists directly on Twitter, where he is busy posting about meaningless instructions he gave and attacks on the system he is in charge of.
What is at stake is critical. It is easy to get hung up on the heartbreaking story (not all hearts) of the hosts. But even without it, the "occupation of Gaza" has far-reaching implications for the country and for the IDF. The term "occupation of Gaza" is written in quotation marks because it has no meaning that can be translated into military action. In its full sense, complete control of the territory and responsibility for the fate of two million people stricken with despair and hunger and the establishment of a military government, it will finally turn Israel into a leper state, endanger its economy and place its exhausted army, both regular and reserve, in situations that will endanger its morale, discipline, cohesion and ability to function. In this context too, it seems that Zamir has shed any illusions with which he entered office and is finally looking reality in the eye.
