oh, absolutely. the first 4 novels are among my favorite piece of literature, especially 4. i adore them. i do wonder if frank had survived if the 7th book would have sort of tied all the weird vibes of 5 and 6 together somehow, so i suppose it's only fair to give him that.

but anyway, the duncan breeders at least had a clever purpose. it's one reason i love pretending 4 is the end of the series, because it would be such a perfect ending. leto, whether he really had the right to or not, freed humanity from the traps of sentience and instilled in them a gene-deep chaffing under even the slightest bit of outside control. makes sense the story would end 'cause no one could see what's comin'.
