It struggles to work for most of the PoV characters but also requires a most non PoV to sit on their hands for years when they have no reason to. The sparrow movement gets their new High Sparrow and then do nothing? The wars in the free cities, elections in Volantis and Braavos, slave uprisings inpsired by Danys recent conquest of Meereen etc.
The main problem is Euron, he killed his brother and came back the next day when dragons came back into the world, made himself king and is going to Oldtown while also getting a dragon. Why would he wait 5 years after being crowned king, or wait 5 years to kill his brother and commence the plan? Its Euron the timeskip just doesn't work for. The timeskip should have had Dany in the grass sea for 5 years. but then she would have kids etc it just gets messy
