The race for AGI is going to fail anyway because nobody in the sector still has any fucking idea of how neural networks actually work and if you can't do that after 15 years and literal trillions of investments and energy costs then AGI is not even a remote pipe dream.
Regardless, even if somehow, somebody comes out of the blue one day in the near future and manages to find a way to unravel the code in neural networks and actually make it intelligible to humans so we can go one step further, the AI utopia/dystopia is so economically unfeasible every CEO and investor will ultimately nope out of it, which is what's going to happen relatively soon anyway.
The real issues we're facing right now outside of the sheer energy costs and the effects on the environment is how this mad rat race is costing people their jobs and ultimately destroying mutual trust at all levels of employment, which is already at an all time low, when all of this crashes you have to wonder who's gonna pick up the pieces and start rebuilding shit and how.
