It seems that char had a particular fondness for kamille that other people notice. he gives him the hyakushiki even. I think that once you reach a point where other people notice how much you spoil someone that other people will start getting the idea something is between the lt. and Commander.
Kamille probably isn't used to getting such things going from him parents ignoring him to orphan and char probably realizes this much like he's gone through the same things.
I really like the interactions between them in the games especially because kamille doesn't really take shit from char and calls him out on his bullshit. I think even if you erase the ending of zeta and ZZ and just go through the movie's ending to where kamille didn't experience any of that and he remains a pilot. I don't think he would let char do any of the shit he would have gotten away with to where if the doctor au came true after he regained mental capacity he would be pissed and shocked that the hospital/fa kept that from him as you don't usually turn current news on for hospital pts.
