there are several obvious logical things going on with Lego Mario
in no particular order:
-brick-built = bigger things, more pieces
-no new molds needed for minifig scale goombas and almost all enemies
-different store-shelf-presence doesn't distract from sales of other Lego sets that DO have minifigs
-Lego finally got an electronic interaction gadget to stick! see! we are big boys with cool tech now, and not building blocks for toddlers
-argument that it NEEDED bling noises and tech gadget to be considered "Mario: a video game"
-maybe not having minifigs makes it more grown-up? (from a toy view, not for collectors, who would want minifigs more)
-probably more reasons
I'm not saying I agree with any of those points, or even if those are real. it's all speculation. but... you asked.
I agree, it's insane we don't yet have a Mario minifig, not even in a huge 18+ set. I can only imagine that the instant they make a Mario minifig, the brick-built sets all collapse into a space-time-paradox-vortex (?)
the one exception? I like the Toads. they are cute.
