The haunted house is such a good fucking build. With all the fucking scalpers and jewish ass prices I have zero qualms about having bought this chink replica online. The quality of the bricks is excellent, maybe not as "soft" as lego in the sense but it's barely noticeable and the figures are identical. All bags came numbered and it was straight up the original set minus the box.

The only actual problem is that it came with non functional stickers, as in, they were dried up and couldn't place them.

Been collecting the studios sets as of late. I know the modern equivalents blow them away in detail but I find the 2000s prints and molds really charming personally, probably just nostalgia though.

I was just going to say that I just realized these plates are like the Mario/Animal crossing plate trash. It seemed more like a way for Lego to charge for more brings (aren't the old road plates like $6 while these new sets were $15-20?). I GET that the modularity also allows you to customize them, but just looking at them now they look so ugly. I like seeing people try their own road and sidewalk mocs tho. Also the big plates are just nice for mocs. It's like a perfect 32x32 space for having a stable build spot, and it doesn't cost much to put them side by side and hold them down with a few inexpensive plate pieces. Also they're nice because of the different colors. I like Star Wars shit so a beige or white plate can easily work as a floor for a Tatooine or Hoth moc. A green plate is perfect for a Castle moc. A blue plate is perfect for Pirates moc. Maybe little kids are better off with these new roads while older moc people just prefer the simplicity and utility of the old plates. Doesn't even have to be mocs, old plates are just perfect for placing all your figs you're working on, your army building. I think I would have been interested in the new ones a bit more if they did more road sets dedicated to trains.

Nowadays there's so many chink brick brands that actually do genuinely compete with Lego that I'd be surprised if they are non compliant with chemical safety in any manner. I know chink bricks have a DEHP disclaimer but that shit is everywhere and basically non-existent, I've seen people claim it is present in the bags for official Lego products too.

AFAIK they use ABS plastic just like Lego does. But really I wouldn't worry about it, like I said, chink sets went from "shit copy with bad printing and pieces that break so the material is of dubious quality" to basically indistinguishable from the original save for the fact that it's VERY SLIGHTLY harder to make them click.

So unless you open your bags and something is oily, I wouldn't worry about anything. I'm more likely to die from smoking than bootlego lmao

ALSO, people were talking about Scooby Doo sets a while back and I just realized they're really just worse versions of existing sets (the lighthouse is a remake of the Hidden Side lighthouse, the mystery mansion is also a remake of the haunted house, etc). But I do wonder, these investors buy up specific sets, they buy up all stock. The stores and Lego sees this as a best seller or do they know what scalpers and investors are doing. I've seen that fat MnR on YouTube buy up like 200 clone trooper battlepacks. I know he's a Filoni era fag, so the blue troopers are "important" to him, but I just didnt see the big deal. Lego later released essentially the same set the next year with the blue clone troopers. Did investors of that set get fucked? I bought two for less than MSRP way back, and recently sold one for like $50. But did Lego release the second 501st set because they thought the first one was a big hit? Also someone earlier said the Mos Eisely cantina was good. Compared to the $500 Sail Barge it's a really good deal, lots of nice alien figs, I agree that the landspeeder is genuinely perfect. Around 2013-2015 Lego hit a peak with affordable but accurate sets, and I feel like that Most Eisely set is taking all that knowledge into a display piece that is a play set.

I think Funwhole and Pantasy have great designs. And Cada has better Technic sets than Lego. I don't like how Cobi always uses special moulds for aircraft or car noses. BlueBrixx has German designers, so most of their stuff looks autistic. Mouldking has some rickety designs especially for their off-brand Star Wars stuff.

I just bought and built the ninjago ship a few days ago. It's quite substantial and actually feels worth 200 dollarydoos, unlike a lot of other sets. I love the 3-in-1 pirate ship but the ninjago ship absolutely dwarfs it, and the details are fairly intricate. Not even a ninjago fan but the ship is really nice.

sticker. That and the red circle piece in the middle are stickers, but those 2x1 tiles with the blue-on-red design are printed. I think there were some stickers for some portraits hanging in the interior too. Personally I never put stickers on anyway and it looks fine without them.

Speaking of details though, the fabric sails are made out of a new material I haven't seen lego use before. It feels more like a microfiber cloth. It's soft and doesn't seem to wrinkle, so I'm a fan.

You're probably right. The current main demographic seems to be millennials (and I guess zoomers, idk the age cutoffs anymore) who grew up with lego. It's lucrative to market towards nostalgia because adults have more disposable income to waste on plastic squares, but it's short-sighted. If they don't capture the attention of kids the way I was enthralled with legos in the 90s and early 00s, when the next generation grows up, there won't be any nostalgia left to cash in on. And that's when legos become akin to boomers and their Lionel model trains.

The shame of it is that there are some sets that I would have killed for to have as playsets when I was a kid. But hundreds of dollars for a playset intended for an 8 year old just doesn't make any sense. I think all the brick-built critters are more appealing, even if too square or dependent on new molds. they would have been too constrained in minifig scale. It's only Mario who looks unflattering being a square
