How much of a dealbreaker are ugly teeth?

I didn't follow care directions well enough when I had braces in middle school and now I have ugly decalcified spots like pic related. Asked my small town local dentist what could be done and they only offer bleaching but said that wouldn't actually make the teeth one uniform color, just that it makes everything whiter including the spots. Questioning whether it's worth it to go to a big city dentist and spend thousands of dollars trying to fix this when I'm already poor.
