>Discourse on the Girl
The panel discussion begins, going smoothly until the topic shifts to the finale and Rinze voices her opinion. One of the other participants disagrees, accusing the original ending, and indirectly Rinze, of being childish. In her interpretation, the girl returning to the painting with a smile is a metaphor for growing up: the girl is presented as naive and helpless right after her escape, but she matures over the course of her journey, and ultimately goes back to the painting having accepted her appropriate place in the world. As such, it's meant to be a happy ending.
Rinze is surprisingly bothered by the debate. Is it really childish to want the girl, and herself, to not go back? Is she also naive and helpless? P notices something is off and gets her to spill the beans, with Rinze straight-up asking if he finds her to be childish. P replies that Rinze does have a childish side, but also that it's only normal for a 16 year old girl, it might even be part of her charm, and that she shouldn't let an entirely subjective opinion about a movie get to her too much. Rinze is unconvinced.
