The agency is obligated to pay around another $300 million for milestones SpaceX achieved, and Musk’s company stands to earn a total of $4.5 billion (or another $1.5 billion) from the HLS contract if they achieve all milestones.

SpaceX got $3B for reaching easy early milestones. The actual building, testing and launching the actual lander will earn them just another $1.5B.
