War of the Worlds was a much more intelligent story, even though the Martians loss was also ridiculous. The Martians were never once at war with humanity. It wasn’t an invasion, it was forestry workers fumigating the place and setting up infrastructure for the next stage. The risk of death at the hands of humans was an occupational hazard. The Martians had intellects as far above us and ours are above animals.
