He was never shown destroying planet Vegeta in the manga, it was stated but not shown
In short, most of the wank and powerscale comes from an scene Toei decided it was cool, as always most of the wank comes from Toei, not the manga
Also, this panel was the only reference of the Bardock special in the manga because at the time Toriyama liked it, but in the Super era he ignored it and changed Bardock's design and the story of Planet's Vegeta destruction. The Special was decanonized and replaced by his version (which is way lamer t b h)
