I'm not coming at this from liberal priors where everyone is a rational self interested individual in a social contract with other rational individuals to create a liberal state to protect property rights
Humans are innately tribalistic and define ourselves against the other, this is how you create a loyal, altruistic society
Liberalism breaks down the friend-enemy distinction which turns people into atomized opportunistic sociopaths
