Bubsy has always had this air of mediocrity conflated with being garbage with Bubsy 3D but it was due to that that Bubsy gained an online infamy which made him kind of fit in this bizzare space where people remember him enough that taking potshots with the IP is a small enough risk that it's worth trying. Making an actually GOOD Bubsy game is something that can be given to an indie team compared to the bigger names in mascot platformers because of both lacking IP value and being internet infamous. In other words, Bubsy still being relevant is entirely the fault of people on the internet.
