He's right. I liked the story we got and the Verso ending, but I also think a traditional JRPG adventure about overcoming the odds in a unique fantasy world would have been more MY type of thing. Thankfully there's other RPGs for that, but it didn't really make me think too much about the end result by revealing the world was just a painting. For a lot of people, it probably took them out of the entire purpose of the expeditions and the goal of the game became something else entirely.

Unless you think the characters within the painting are incredibly captivating, I think it's normal to see the reveal, see who Maelle really is, and then immediately stop giving a fuck about what you were doing before to burn it all down. I really enjoyed the game anyways and I enjoy discussing the story and ending choices, but I think I'd find it more memorable if it was a more traditional RPG story about saving the world. Simplicity and adventure are the best.
