It costs 0 waveplates I think they are designed for you to just take your time with them rather than to rush things. You can grind out a set over the course of a patch or two and just use placeholder echoes at the start.
No need to spam selectors now when you can just wait and slowly chip away at a nest at no cost to your ability to farm other things.
