It's strange really, because it had everything going for it. I had hundreds and hundreds of hours in 4U, and World was one of my favorite games of all time. It kind of feels like they literally designed it to be generally.. annoying? On launch it was pretty unfun with how often camps were constantly destroyed; There was zero sense of progression to finding them because they would just get wrecked and I would have to spend even MORE fucking time in the various menus and submenus to restore them, just to have them break again within minutes and sort of invalidating their whole "explore our vibrant wilds". Why should I bother when the camps I find don't matter? Where's the comfy village hub with its own vibes? The submenu navigation is also exceedingly complex for no reason, on release everybody was confused on how to just fucking play multiplayer.. in Monster Hunter lol. The new monsters, while neat and not bad per say, didn't have quite the same draw and personality either. The wounds system is funish in concept, but ultimately feels less engaging than the clutch claw to me personally and it probably was meant to be to focus more on the actual fight itself but then it just kind of seems like a half assed addition just to have "something" as a mechanic tacked into hunts. Content came out a bit too slowly to keep me playing, and now that there's a pseudo grind for charms I just.. don't give a shit really. It's also fully transitioned to spending a bunch of dev time on cash grab paid content as well now, which really rubs salt on your wounds as a long time player when every single event used to be free and give tons of fun cosmetics and soulful crossovers. It feels like it's playing catch up now and it's kind of too little too late for me, I checked out a while ago and will maybe boot it back up when master rank rolls around.
