Ren & Stimpy was like the third most influential cartoon of the 90’s after Mighty Mouse and Who Framed Roger Rabbit. You have it to thank for the creative boom of wacky cartoons from that era. Pretty much every wacky cartoon after that to this day is Spumco derived one way or the other, which makes sense, Ren & Stimpy was a love letter to classic cartoons, inspired by Bob Clampett and UPA, and the Spumco era had some amazing animation, there’s a reason the show was so popular around its time, it’s because interest in classic cartoons among normies reemerged and people wanted to see something new after the whole toy commercial era. You’re acting as if expressive animation and Spumco influence is a bad thing, when honestly we need more cartoons these days that embrace being cartoons and make themselves distinct from live-action.
Rocko, Ed Edd & Eddy, Dexters Lab, Cow & Chicken, Courage the Cowardly Dog, pretty much every wacky show of the 90’s R&S paved the way for.
