Pathologic 2 is the polished up and refined version of the main vision and philosophy behind the game, exactly what they wanted to do with 1 where they utterly failed.

1 is a total mess where it's impossible to stay fully immersed because
>the deadly plague is not deadly at all, just chug medicine
>the best way to spend free time? Killing muggers at night, as if you were grinding mob drops
>forced to make choices for your own survival? Maybe skip entire questlines to save your skin?
Nope, it's pathetically easy to do all sidequests and have time to spare.
>protecting your Bound being hard? Just give everyone medicine on day 12 and you are good, nobody is going to die anyway
>fucked up? Just quickload

2 fixed every single design flaw 1 had and brought their vision so well to life that people were getting filtered over playing like a completionist instead of actually immersing themselves into the character and actually having to choose how you spend your precious time, or actually trying to fight muggers instead of realistically trying to run away from them

1 might have a better atmosphere and 2 might be missing important details that I will always miss, but that was an issue with the writing and music/art, not the actual gameplay which actually enhances the inferior material by being better integrated into a game
